A Picture-Perfect Convention Content provided by Tom Panas, Public Relations Director It is said that a picture is worth a thousand words. True — to an extent. A concise, accurately written caption enhances the visual story told by the picture and adds time, place and explanatory detail. Hopefully you’ve enjoyed the pictures posted on this website earlier; a few more are added below. If you were at Convention and took pictures, send them to your diocesan and secular newspapers and your parish bulletins. Include a written caption that identifies the people in the picture and, if possible, a brief description of the situation. Be sure to include your name and phone number, in case the newspaper has questions or wants more information. Those of you who submit pictures for the “News & Notes” section of SHARE Magazine are very good at this. At the bottom of the page is a link to a caption “template” you can follow.
A wide view of the Grand Pavillion ballroom where business was conducted and events were held. This Convention was one of the largest ever; the Hyatt Regency Albquerque, where it was held, said that it was the largest convention ever held at the Hyatt. Note the large screens on either side of the photo: the Saturday night finale Appreciation Banquet was filled to overcrowding and many, sitting in tables in another banquet hall, viewed the festivities on these screens.
The Patriotic Mass held on Friday morning brought out enthusiasm for America among the Catholic Daughters. In the picture above, Daughters from Colorado not only wave the American flag but wear it — Anna Rockhill, sitting, from Court Holy Family #1794, wears a flag in her hair and it looks quite fashionable indeed. Other forms of flag waving are exhibited by Leslie Daniele, standing, left, with a flag in her lapel and Catherine Schmitz, right, holding the flag in her left hand. Leslie and Catherine are from Court Madonna of the Mountains #2035.
The ruggedly-handsome Jim Bosch, husband of National Regent Claudia Bosch, expresses his patriotism with two criss-crossing American flags and a bright red shirt.
Many delegates arrived tired after long flights and the rigors of travel. When they entered the Convention Hall they were met with welcoming warmth by Daughters and volunteers from Albuquerque manning the registration table. These pleasant greeters were ready and able to answer questions, give directions, provide registration packets and generally help delegates get oriented to Convention events. In the photo are, from left to right, Novella Herrera, volunteer; Paula Martinez and Irene Geoffrion, both from Albuquerque Court #1796.
Yes, that is National Regent-Elect Libby Ramirez, left, and (in red) National Regent Claudia Bosch, right, surrounded by strapping young men in uniform. No, they are not about to be arrested for a minor transgression: the gentlemen in the picture are members of the Albuquerque Fire Department, who were kind enough to join the Catholic Daughters for the Patriotic Mass.
